Through his phenomenally successful works such as Love Hina or Negima! Magister Negi Magi Ken Akamatsu has considerably impacted the romantic comedy genre and the image of the magazine he was published in, the Weekly Shonen Magazine. After many years of advocacy for author's rights, he was elected in 2022 as a senator for the Liberal Democratic Party in the House of Councillors of Japan, making him the first mangaka to be a member of the government.
