Celebrate the Hosoda Film Festival with a screening of the hit : Summer Wars!
A not-to-be-missed event, the Hosoda Film Festival is an opportunity to enjoy Mamoru HOSODA's movies, including Wolf Children (2012), Summer Wars (2009), and Belle (2021), his latest film that has been a worldwide smash!
Summary of Summer Wars: “Kenji, a math whiz but a normal high schooler, faces a world crisis which broke out in a virtual city called "OZ". Natsuki, the girl of his dreams, and her relatives living in the countryside of Nagano prefecture help him through those dangerous times ! The movie is full of exciting actions and human dramas, depicting two very different subjects: the world of Internet and life in rural Japan."
The screening will take place on Friday, July 15, at the YUZU Stage from 6pm to 8.30pm! It is free and without reservation.
MAMORU HOSODA
Mamoru HOSODA was born in 1967, in the Toyama prefecture. He joined the Toei Doga studio (now Toei Animation) in 1991, going from animator to stage director, then director in 1999 with the film Digimon Adventure. Shortly afterwards, he became a freelancer and directed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) and Summer Wars (2009), which attracted attention both in Japan and internationally. In 2011, he founded his own animation studio, Studio Chizu, with producer Yuichiro SAITO, where he directed and wrote the script for Wolf Children and The Boy and the Beast. His next film, Mirai (2018), has been screened at the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, then nominated for the Animated Feature Film Award at the 91st Academy Awards and the 76th Golden Globes. It won the Independent Feature Film Award at the 46th Annie Awards.
