Gamers, we already are... and we're becoming more and more so. Today, video gaming is a leisure activity enjoyed by a large proportion of the population, and has become professionalized to the point of bringing together thousands of enthusiasts at e-sport events. However, it continues to be singled out for criticism by an older segment of the population, and by certain members of the political class, when current events give them the opportunity to do so. Through their work, the authors challenge these persistent clichés about gamers and the alleged effects of video games. No, playing video games doesn't necessarily make you more violent. Yes, it can provide a space for socialization. Yes, there are still games where women are not welcomed with open arms, but it is possible to improve this situation. Demolishing preconceived ideas and proposing a genuine and unprecedented sociology of video games, this essay is as innovative as it is fascinating!
