about Haidong Gumdo

Haidong Gumdo is a sword-based martial art with its roots in the techniques developed by the warriors of the Goguryeo kingdom. Its official modern form was synthesized by Grand Master KIM Jeong Ho, President of the World Haidong Gumdo Federation.

This patriotic art, based on human values, was highly prized in Korea, and flourished to such an extent that on November 25, 1996, in order to guarantee the continuity of his martial art, KIM Jeong Ho created the World Haidong Gumdo Federation. The Federation is represented in over 50 countries, with over 900 dojangs in Korea and 3 million practitioners worldwide.

In 2010, the Korean Government, after intense research, recognized and established that Haidong Gumdo is a Traditional Korean Martial Art and that only the World Haidong Gumdo Federation dispenses the traditional Korean sword martial art in a fair and brilliant manner in Korea and throughout the world.

HAIDONG GUMDO® is a registered trademark and the official name of the traditional Korean sword fighting martial art. Today, the World Haidong Gumdo Federation is the only official structure recognized by the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Korea for the practice of the Korean traditional sword해동검도 martial art.
