Daruma : presentation
Daruma is the annual meeting of the best of manga and anime! At Japan Expo, the public and the Selection Committee share their favorites, revealed at the end of the award ceremony!
The Daruma awards recognize a selection of manga and anime released during the previous year, as voted for by a jury of professionals and the public, offering a veritable reading guide for those wishing to discover the best of recent releases.
To select the live works, a Selection Committee was asked to draw up the list of manga and anime in competition. These specialists, media players, specialized influencers and personalities from the worlds of manga and anime delivered a complete list of works divided into 21 categories!
The categories are :
- Daruma for best action manga: Gachiakuta by Kei Urana from Pika
- Daruma for best romance manga: Blue Box by Kouji Miura (Delcourt-Tonkam)
- Daruma for best suspense manga: The Summer Hikaru Died by Mokomokuren, Pika
- Daruma for best slice-of-life manga: Hirayasumi by Keigo Shinzo, published by Le Lézard Noir
- Daruma for best new manga: Hirayasumi by Keigo Shinzo published by Le Lézard Noir
- Daruma for best production: Soul Eater by Atsushi Ohkubo published by Kurokawa
- Daruma for best one shot: Adieu Eri by Tatsuki Fujimoto, Crunchyroll
- Daruma for the French Touch: Ripper by Jeronimo Cejudo (Ankama)
- Daruma for heritage: Le Voyage de Shuna by Hayao Miyazaki, Sarbacane
- Daruma for best drawing: Sakamoto Days by Yuto Suzuki, Glénat
- Daruma for best script: Adieu Eri by Tatsuki Fujimoto, Crunchyroll
- Daruma for best action anime: JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 by MAPPA directed by Shota Goshozono
- Daruma for best romance anime: My Happy Marriage by Kinema Citrus and directed by Takehiro Kubota
- Daruma for best suspense anime: The Apothecary's Notebooks by TOHO animation STUDIO & OLM and directed by Norihiro Naganuma
- Daruma for best slice of life anime: Frieren by MADHOUSE and directed by Keiichiro Saito
- Daruma for best feature movie: The First Slam Dunk by Toei Animation and directed by Takehiko Inoue
- Daruma for best original score: Suzume by CoMix Wave Films Inc. & STORY inc. by Kazuma Jinnouchi and RADWIMPS
- Daruma for best opening: Idol by YOASOBI in Oshi no Ko
- Daruma for best ending: Anytime Anywhere by milet in Frieren
- Gold Daruma for best anime: Frieren by MADHOUSE and directed by Keiichiro Saito
- Gold Daruma for best manga: Sakamoto Days by Yuto Suzuki, Glénat
A Jury was in charge of rewarding the nominees in these categories. The public also took part, as you were able to vote in the categories for your favorite works! The Daruma 2024 Awards Ceremony took place in public at Japan Expo and was broadcast on our Twitch channel and that of Team Manga on Friday July 12 on the Také stage.
The Daruma 2023
In 2023, 23 prizes were awarded to the best productions of the past year. You had the chance to vote in 4 of them to defend your favorite manga or anime!
The winners were revealed at the Awards Ceremony held on July 14, 2023 on the Také stage at Japan Expo.
The Gold Daruma for the 2023 edition were won by :
- Gold Daruma for best anime of the year: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (TV series), TRIGGER, Hiroyuki imaishi.
- Gold Daruma for best manga of the year: Chainsaw Man, Tatsuki Fujimoto, Crunchyroll
