Biography

Rie ARUGA started her career in 2011 as she was rewarded by the GOLD award of the sixth KissIN contest with the short story Tentai Kansoku. Then, in 2013 she published her very first series in Kiss magazine: Oruto no Kumo kara. Though they haven’t been published as volumes in Japan, the six chapters of this title are available in France, published by Éditions Akata.

In May 2014, in the same magazine, she launched her current best-seller: Perfect World. It tackles the theme of handicap in a very sensible way. After a few years of being published in Japan, the success of Perfect World got it adapted as a live feature film in 2018 and as a TV show in 2019, the same year it was awarded the best shôjo prize from the Kodansha Awards.

In this time, in France, Perfect World had a huge success! Launched in October 2016 by Éditions Akata, this manga soon became a must in the field of shôjo, selling over 85,000 copies with 8 volumes published. Every year, the manga is in the top sales of shôjo and won several awards in France.

Come meet Rie ARUGA at Japan Expo: the author of Perfect World will be attending the festival and holding signings, a conference and live drawing, and a masterclass
