Profile
Inspired by female singer-songwriters such as Sheryl CROW and Carole KING, miwa started to write her own songs at the age of 15. Her performances in small clubs in Shimokitazawa and on the streets caught the eyes of the industry people, which led to her debut in March 2010 with the single don’t cry anymore.
Her first album, guitarissimo, released in April 2011, ranked #1 in the Oricon Weekly album chart by a female singer-songwriter. Ever since, she has continued to release hit songs, mainly of tie-in projects. Hikarie, the theme song of the Fuji TV network drama series Rich Man, Poor Woman became a huge hit.
She performed her first Budokan show concurrently with her graduation from college, in a traditional outfit for the graduation ceremony which became the talk of the town. The following day she took the stage of the Shimokitazawa Loft, making good on her “promise” with the venue manager.

miwa made her first appearance in the Kohaku Uta Gassen (“Red & White Music Festival”) in 2013 and went again for the next four years. In 2014 she culminated her Shibuya area performance circuit, which had started with Eggman, at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium. The show was entitled Shibuya Monogatari – Kan – and ended in tremendous success. The same year, her third album Delight won the 4th annual Music Jacket Award 2014.
In March 2015, she became the first female artist to perform the Budokan for two days with just her guitar and voice. In 2018, she completed the acoguissimo tour, traveling all 47 prefectures since her debut. The tour closed at the Yokohama Arena, the biggest venue for a guitar-and-voice show. The release of her career-first “best of” album entitled miwa THE BEST also attracted huge attention.
When you ask teens to request a song, hers always come in as one of the most wanted. miwa is a singer-songwriter who can weave the times into her songs.
