To make people happy, you have to welcome them the right way.
In Iwate, people say the symbol of welcome is wankosoba – Iwate region noodles. Iwate prefecture is also proud to be the first lacquerware producer in Japan. By combining both symbols – food and lacquerware –, Iwate prefecture has created its official mascot: the Wanko siblings. Wanko Kyodai is a lacquerware bowl full of edamame mochi.
Wanko Kyodai will be visiting you at Japan Expo, the opportunity to find out more about Iwate’s specialties, such as lacquerware. Don’t miss him on the Sakura or Azuki stages for shows such as only Japanese mascots can perform. Let’s give him the warmest of welcomes!
