Satsumasendai Odori-daiko

Created in 1983, "Satsumasendai Odori-daiko" is a troupe that uses music to train young people’s spirit and body, in a fun and entertaining way.

Traces of this ancestral art called taiko can be found in Japanese mythology. Legend has it that the lively rhythms of taiko and the joy they communicate were the reason why the Sun goddess – Amaterasu – agreed to shine her light back on Earth.

Since then, the Japanese percussion instruments are part of the whole religious life and of the popular festivities. They also accompany the dance awa, originated in the south of Japan. More recently, it also became a means of artistic expression that can be found on numerous stages throughout the world.
