Hideo SEKINO – shakuhachi flute
Hideo SEKINO invites you to a demonstration of shakuhachi, a bamboo flute producing sounds that take you back to ancient Japan!

Hideo SEKINO started playing shakuhashi in the 1980s according to komusô, a style enhancing breathings that Western traditions considered to be unpleasant to the ear. He has also developed personal techniques mixing breathing with vocals, also known as horagai breathing. With this extraordinary skills, Hideo SEKINO has launched many collaborations with artists from various disciplines: contemporary dance or butô, live painting, calligraphy, etc.

During his show on the Sakura stage, Hideo SEKINO carries you to the tune of folkloric pieces, as well as personal improvisations inspired by Japanese traditions.
