Biography
After graduating from Kokugakuin college literature department, Yoko HANABUSA started publishing her work in the magazine Desir published by Akita Shoten. She then switched to the magazine Hitomi Comics of the same publisher. Then, she started drawing for the magazines Mystery Bonita (Akita Shoten), Horror M published by Bunkasha, and Nakayoshi published by Kôdansha.
Her most famous work, Gwendoline (Lady!!), was so successful that Toei Animation adapted it as an anime, and that Yoko HANABUSA wrote the sequel, Hello! Lady Lynn. And the series success went beyond Japan’s borders, to Europe and the rest of Asia.
Yoko HANABUSA cares a lot about her relations with foreign countries and regularly attends manga masterclasses and signings abroad, in France or Asia. She also loves to share her knowledge and taught for 2 years at Nagoya’s art college. Since 2000, she also teaches manga techniques at Toei Animation.
Yoko HANABUSA also continues her activities as a mangaka and tackles many varied genres such as mystery, and romantic or historical fiction. She’s currently self-publishing the sequel to Lady!!, and children’s manga.
