14/06/30 - M. Shigeru Miyamoto regrets that he has to cancel his coming

On June 26, Japan Expo and Nintendo France announced the coming of M. Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo to Japan Expo in Paris on Friday, July 4 to take part in a special masterclass.

Yet, M. Shigeru Miyamoto deeply regrets that he has to cancel his trips for last minute personal reasons linked to his father’s failing health. M. Shigeru Miyamoto will not take the trip from Japan to France. M. Shigeru Miyamoto is apologizing to all his fans who wished to attend the masterclass at Japan Expo.

Shigeru MIYAMOTO is Senior Managing Director and General Manager, Entertainment Analysis & Development Division at Nintendo Co., Ltd.

Considered the greatest video game designer in the world by his peers, and called “The Spielberg of Video Games” by Time magazine, Shigeru MIYAMOTO serves as the creative force behind the world’s most popular and enduring video games for Nintendo hardware systems.

Shigeru MIYAMOTO joined Nintendo in 1977 as a staff artist and quickly built a reputation for himself. As the creator of the hugely popular Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda games, he is one of the most revered figures in the video game world. In 1981, Nintendo released Shigeru MIYAMOTO’s first masterpiece, the arcade game Donkey Kong. In 1985, Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System with Shigeru MIYAMOTO’s Super Mario Bros. The classic side-scrolling action game set the standard for all future home console video games. Eventually, worldwide sales topped 40 million, and a series of mega-hit titles was born, including the 1996 Nintendo 64 best-seller, Super Mario 64. More than 294 million video games in the Super Mario Bros. series have been sold worldwide. To date, Shigeru MIYAMOTO has worked on more than 100 different Nintendo video games. As a producer for Kirby and Pokémon games, he has supported younger video game creators. Shigeru MIYAMOTO’s most recent video game projects include The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, nintendogs + cats, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, nintendogs, Super Mario Galaxy, and design work on the Wii hardware. He also was responsible for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, Luigi’s Mansion and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which has been called the greatest video game of all time.

In 1998, Shigeru MIYAMOTO became the first inductee into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. He and his best-known creation, Mario, were honored as inaugural inductees into the Walk of Game in San Francisco in 2005. He became one of the first video game creators knighted into France’s Order of Arts and Letters in 2006. In 2007, the International Game Developers Association awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award; and Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Presented by the Prince of Spain, he was also awarded the Communication and Humanities: Prince of Asturias Awards (Prince of Asturias Foundation) in 2012 for his contribution to encouraging and promoting cultural and humanistic values.

Shigeru MIYAMOTO holds a degree from the Kanazawa College of Art in Ishikawa, Japan.
