presentation
Yosakoi Paris HINODE MAI is a yosakoi dance group. It started with a group of friends who decided to gather in October 2014 to share their passion for dance. The group is made up of 5 to 10 members of all ages.
Since their beginning, the group has had the opportunity to perform on stage at Japan Expo Sud, and had exchanges with Koidoukai (a yosakoi group from Bordeaux).
The group was also created to spread yosakoi dance and promote Japanese traditional culture. The dancers want to share their passion for this dance with the largest public possible.
Yosakoi Paris HINODE MAI is joining Japan Expo this year to make you discover yosakoi with an energetic show on the Sakura Stage!
what is yosakoi?
Yosakoi is a dance from the city of Kôchi, on the Shikoku Island. This dance was created in 1954 to reinvigorate the country’s economy and the cities scarred by the war. Combining a traditional style with more modern movements and an energetic rhythm, today yokasoi is practiced everywhere in Japan.
Yosakoi is danced with naruko, a type of handheld instrument made of wood. Naruko were originally used to scare off birds and keep them off rice fields. Dancers can also use fans or lanterns.
There is a wide choice of outfits: T-shirt, kimono or hakama. The more yosakoi spreads throughout Japan, the more costumes diversify, from traditional to more contemporary and modern outfits.
