Tsunagari means link in Japanese, the link between beings, the link between the mind and the body… The Tsunagari Taiko Center is a scenic group and at the same time a Parisian school of danse and Japanese drums (taiko). It aims to help students to develop without any complex, their vitality, wellness and joy on a daily basis.
The taiko, a millenary art
The taiko is a thousand years old art whose tracks can be found in Japanese mythology. According to it, it would be thanks to catchy rhythms and the joy communicated by taiko that the goddess of sunshine: Amaterasu Ohmikamiaurai has accepted to bring light back on earth.
Since this time, are born Japanese drums. They give rhythms to religious life and to popular celebrations. More recently, this art became a way of artistic expression that we can find on stage all around the world.
Simplicity and freedom with awa dance
Awa dance or awa-odori comes from the south of Japan. Following the rhythms of taikos, awa dance is practiced since more than 400 years in every streets, by local populations, for ancestor’s celebrations. For those occasions, everybody, young and elders, express their joy and their freedom without any fear of judgment. It’s a simple, dynamic, free and joyful dance different from all the Occidental dances (classic, modern dance) you may already know.
