Presentation

Mai YASUDA is a calligraphy artist. She’s been practicing calligraphy ever since she’s been a child. Today, she‘s performing her art all over the world to spread traditional culture. She’s inviting you to discover a performance mixing Japanese calligraphy, dancing, and martial arts, created by her and the group NINJA -KAGERO-, with Tsubasa TADA and Miki KOYAMA.

Tsubasa TADA is part of the family of the Dainihon Seigi-ryu Kenbu-jutsu school masters, teaching an art mixing dance and martial arts, kenshibu. He is now the master of the school. As for Miki KOYAMA, she is a dancer whose talent has been rewarded with several awards in international competitions.

The Sakura stage is inviting you to watch this show where calligraphy, ninja arts and kenbu (literally, the sword dance) are woven together. The amazing technical skills of the artists is going to take your breath away!

Kenshibu

Kenshibu (sword and poetry dancing) is a type of dance with traditional music and poetry (shigin). Kenbu is dance using a sword, whereas shibu is danced with a fan. Though kenbu existed as far away as in the Nara and Heian eras (from the 8th century), modern kenshibu was created after the Meiji era (1868).
