Izuru AMASE: Takarazuka

Contrary to kabuki troupes, the Takarazuka company only has actresses on stage. Japan Expo is delighted to welcome one of them, Izuru AMASE, former star of the company, to unveil to you its charms and subtleties.

Biography

Izuru AMASE was the star of the Takarazuka Revue – a theatre troupe with women only, in which actresses play the male parts, conversely to kabuki actors, all men, who embody female characters. After playing male parts (otokoyaku) for a long time, she has now tuned to female roles (musumeyaku).

In 1995, Izuru AMASE started the Takarazuka schools and graduated at the top of her class. She joined the revue two years later, in the snow troupe (Yukigumi) in 1998. Despite her young age, her talent soon stood out and she was offered major parts.

After leaving the Takarazuka Revue, she kept on acting on several theatre stages and joined the Takarazuka training school as its President.

Program

Izuru AMASE is presenting the Takarazuka Revue, an often lesser known aspect of Japanese theatre.

This former member of Takarazuka will create a link between Europe and Japan, and show you the charms of the Takarazuka Revue. She will explain its varied aspects and show her acting talents during a talk-show with a demonstration.

Come cheer this major Tarazuka actress on the Sakura stage at Japan Expo!
