Yuiko TSUNO is a specialist in the art of kamishibai (Paper drama), a traditional form of storytelling in Japan. It’s the art of conveying stories by not just telling them, but also using a set of illustrations.

Kamishibai dates back to the 12th century and endured as a storytelling method for a very long time. A kamishibai storyteller rode from village to village on a bicycle equipped with a small stage, and children who bought him candy could watch the story.

But later, with the emergence of cinema, this art disappeared from the Japanese streets. It was only revived in the 50s.

Yuiko TSUNO and her company Les troubadours colombe bleue show you this ancient art in a new light: by keeping his traditional style with the stage, the music, the dance and the cookies, and by bringing it a new occidental / oriental touch. The story they tell us is a mixture of cultures, with as characters an oriental dancer, Arab musicians, a young Japanese seamstress and a Japanese baker.

The plays Yuiko TSUNO and the troubadours colombe bleue present at Japan Expo are:
1. L'oiseaux des larmes (the bird of tears)
2. Garaxargot
3. La nuit des tortures (the night of tortures)
4. Les parapluies magies (the magic umbrellas)
