Presentation
Every year, Japan Expo organizes an exhibit to show the beauties of Japanese cities. For the 18th Impact, the festival is making a stop at Kanazawa.
Kanazawa is the capital city of Ishikawa prefecture, set in the center of Hokuriku region and also of Honshu. It is the region economic and cultural center. A mix between its century-old traditions and its modern aspects makes it a very attractive city for eight million tourists every year.
Travelers can visit historical and contemporary buildings, like Kanazawa castle and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, which exhibits experimental works, temples and shrines and the train station and its glass dome. The city avoided the damages of World War II and ancient buildings and streets now border entertainment and shopping districts. Kenrokuen Garden, considered as one of the most beautiful feudal lord's garden in Japan, immerses the visitor in a quiet and magic atmosphere that changes with seasons.
The city features many attractions and has a rich arts and crafts culture – Kanazawa gold leaves, Kutani porcelain, Wagasa traditional umbrellas. UNESCO appointed Kanazawa to the Creative Cities Network in June 2009 as City of Crafts and Folk Art.
People can also enjoy a refined gastronomy, such as the jibuni, a tasteful type of chicken soup. Omi-cho market also demonstrates this feature, feeding the city since the 18th century with 170 stalls which show the abundance of local products, such as rice, vegetables, and the fish and seafood from the Sea of Japan.
