Washoku Area

For the first, Japanese cuisine has a whole dedicated area at Japan Expo. With booth for all 4 days and workshops organized everyday, the Washoku area invites you to have a taste of Japan thanks to this cuisine which is now part of the UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity!

Introduction

French cuisine is not the only one which has conquered the hearts of foodies worldwide. Little by little, Japanese cuisine has settled in France, in Europe and even in the world, where Japanese restaurants are now among the most popular establishments. Our kitchens have also adopted them and its seasonings are in every cupboard, fridge and of course in our plates.

Made popular thanks to sushi, râmen and some more food that gets more and more popular, Japanese cuisine has many tastes, textures and colors to offer, but also a history and traditions which are part of Japanese people’s daily life.

In 2013, Japanese cuisine was added by UNESCO to the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Washoku, as it is also known (from wa, meaning Japan, and shoku, meaning food or eating), is now among the leading world cuisines thanks to its variety and the image it conveys of a healthy food.

 
 
 

Activities

For the first time at Japan Expo, come visit the Washoku area, entirely dedicated to Japanese cuisine: meet professionals from Japan, attend demonstrations of cooking Japanese dishes, and have many more surprises!

Organized in partnership with Japan Day Project, the Washoku is welcoming Gurunavi’s booth, the first online restaurant guide in Japan, Nissin, the famous instant noodles company, and Tiger, famous for its rice-cookers.

Come attend Miyuki JO’s workshops. Specialized in Japanese family cooking, she shows you what Japanese people eat in daily life.  At the workshops, she’ll show you how to make these meals at home, just like Japanese families.

Japan Day Project also proposes a wine tasting in collaboration with the manga The Drops of God.

 

Don’t miss the workshops to learn how to cook the Japanese way at home:

  • prepare character bentôbentô with super kawaii characters – with Gurunavi
  • discover Nissin’s secret recipes to make delicious and original meals with instant noodles
  • attend the making of unique meals prepared by professionals thanks to the Washoku cultural exchange association
  • learn how to cook home meals with Miyuki JÔ, coordinator specialized in family cooking
